Oceanside Mayoral Election 2020: Open Seat Draws 12 Contenders
A record number of candidates are running to be Oceanside's next mayor.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A record number of candidates are running to be Oceanside's next mayor in Tuesday's general election. A dozen people are vying for the position — the largest field in more than 30 years.
Mayor Peter Weiss, who was appointed to the role in 2018, is running for the District 4 City Council seat, leaving the position open.
Three of the 12 mayoral candidates are incumbent councilmembers. They include Jack Feller, Christopher Rodriguez and Esther Sanchez.

The remaining candidates include Perry Alvarez, a community volunteer; Rocky Chávez, a retired Marine; Fernando Garcia, a retired Marine; Rob Howard, a human rights advisor; Ruben Major, a paramedic educator and businessperson; Fabio Marchi, an engineer and businessman; Alvin Mcgee, a community volunteer; David Joseph Turgeon, a lineman and ornamental horticulturalist; and Louis Uridel, a gym owner.
