More than 300 vehicles passed through a checkpoint on Mission Avenue at Clementine.

Two suspected drunken drivers were arrested at a checkpoint in Oceanside this weekend, police said.
About 330 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Mission Avenue at Clementine Street between 9:20 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Kenneth Gow.
In addition to the two suspected drunken driving arrests, officers issued 23 citations, Gow said.

Gow said checkpoints are a proven deterrent in lowering the number of people injured or killed in DUI crashes. He also shared some sad statistics from the last three years.
“DUI collisions have claimed eight lives and resulted in 164 injury crashes harming 258 of our friends and neighbors,” Gow said.
