Two suspected drunken drivers were arrested at a checkpoint in Oceanside that ended early Saturday, a police sergeant said.
Nearly 650 drivers went through the checkpoint on College Boulevard at Adams Street, conducted by the Oceanside Police Department's Traffic Services Unit from 9:20 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Kenneth Gow said.
In addition to the two suspected drunken drivers, officers issued 14 citations, including nine to unlicensed drivers and one to a motorist with a suspended license, according to Gow.

Gow said the deterrent effect of checkpoints was a proven resource in reducing the number of alcohol- or drug-related crashes.
“Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed eight lives and resulted in 164 injury crashes harming 258 of our friends and neighbors,” Gow said.
