Oceanside Police To Set Up DUI Checkpoint
Police plan a crackdown on drunk driving on Friday, Aug. 5.

plan to set up a DUI checkpoint next week Friday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The exact location of the checkpoint is not being released to the public, said Lt. Leonard Mata.
The campaign is aimed at reducing drunk driving on Oceanside roadways and lowering the number of injuries caused by intoxicated drivers.

"We want to send a message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol," the police department said in a press release. "We encourage all drivers to designate a sober driver if they choose to drink."
Anyone who spots an impaired driver is asked to call 911.

Oceanside's DUI enforcement and education program is funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant.
