OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside City Council will conduct a workshop to provide comment on the Draft Policy Framework that will be the basis for the preparation of the South Morro Hills Community Plan.

South Morro Hills is among Oceanside's last remaining farming region and includes over 3,500 acres in the northeast area near Fallbrook. Many residents want the land preserved solely for agricultural purposes, but the new plan proposes reducing the zoning from 2.5 acres to only 1 acre and allowing for "clusters" of housing developments.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

According to the workshop agenda released by the City, the South Morro Hills Community Plan will contain policies and planning guidance specific to Oceanside’s only remaining agricultural area, and will focus on supporting the continued viability of farming through supplemental income produced by expanded agritourism opportunities and farmland conservation in conjunction with some residential development. The plan will also focus on protecting the rural character of South Morro Hills, enhancing the quality of life of residents, and promoting responsible growth management.
