OUSD Board Votes To Keep In-person, Split Hybrid School Schedules

The Oceanside Unified School District Board of Education voted to maintain the current in-person, elementary split-day hybrid schedules.

OCEANSIDE, CA - The Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) Board of Education voted to maintain the current in-person, elementary split-day hybrid schedules, at this week's meeting.

At the April 13, regular OUSD Board of Education meeting, the Board approved a motion to maintain our current in-person, elementary split-day hybrid schedules until the district had: consulted with San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency to ensure the safety of our classroom environments in an expanded model; continued negotiations with our labor groups; and could report back to the board to determine possible further action to expand in-person elementary learning.

The board also voted for secondary grades 6-12 to remain in their current hybrid learning schedules. At the elementary level, this decision was made in order to evaluate health and safety recommendations with the advice of San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency prior to expanding our in-person instruction, given that it will be difficult to meet the county’s recommended 3-ft social distancing in all classrooms in an expanded model.

It will also allow time to solidify potential expanded in-person schedules with our labor groups before making our fifth elementary schedule change this academic year. At the secondary level, because these scholars and staff have had only one full week of instruction in their current model, the board did not implement further changes at this time.

The OUSD Board of Education held in-depth discussion during the board meeting prior to taking these actions. As we continue to advance our reopening plans, we want to ensure the health and safety of our community, and provide as much consistency as possible for our students, staff, and families.
