Pedestrian Killed Thursday Identified by Authorities

Authorities Sunday identified the 30-year-old man killed when he was struck by a truck in the intersection of state Route 76 and North Santa Fe Avenue in Oceanside.

Andrew Kyle Olson had entered the intersection about 3:45 a.m. Thursday when he was struck by a truck that was turning right onto North Santa Fe from the highway’s eastbound lanes, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He had apparently stepped from the shoulder into the turn lane and into the path of the oncoming vehicle, Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata told U-T San Diego. The uninjured driver stopped following the crash, the newspaper reported.

Olson was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and died shortly after from multiple blunt force injuries, Medical Examiner’s Office officials said.
