Sierra Fire On Camp Pendleton In Patrol Status - VIDEO

The Sierra Fire started on Wednesday afternoon and initially prompted mandatory evacuation orders on base. Video update from Camp Pendleton.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Camp Pendleton Sierra Fire has been listed as now in Patrol Status. A video was released showing fire crews working to contain the fire while service members were evacuated to Paige Fieldhouse.

The wildfire grew to approximately 1,000 acres and local firefighters battled the fire from June 9 - June 11.

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time," a base official said.

Officials have not confirmed whether the fire was associated with prescribed burns that were being conducted last week to clear out dense vegetation and to help endangered wildlife or from the fire school training for firefighters that was being hosted by the Camp Pendleton Fire Department.
