Unmanned Boats Found Adrift Near Oceanside; Coast Guard Searching for Possible Survivors

Two unmanned boats were found drifting near Oceanside Tuesday. The Coast Guard dispatched units to search for possible missing crew. By midday there was still no evidence that anyone had fallen overboard.

The U.S. Coast Guard sent out a Jayhawk helicopter and a cutter boat to search for anyone who might have fallen overboard from two small unoccupied boats adrift off the coast of Oceanside on Tuesday, City News Service reported.

The Civil Air Patrol spotted both vessels, a capsized kayak and a dinghy, around 7 a.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Henry Dunphy told City News Service. No victims had been found by midday, and authorities had received no reports of anyone missing in the ocean, Dunphy said.

Anyone with information about possible missing persons should contact Dunphy at 619-247-2478.
