Woman Suspected of Conning Pendleton Families Out of Cash

Suspect uses fake check to get money from victims.

Oceanside police are asking for help in identifying a woman who is suspected of conning several military families out of their money using fake checks, City News Service reported Tuesday.

The suspect targets families who advertise for-sale items on a Camp Pendleton-based yardsale website, asking them to meet her at their bank. Once met, the suspect signs over a fake payroll check to her victims in the amount of $700 to $800 and asks for the cash, less the item she told them she would buy, usually under $100.

At least four people have been duped by the con woman in the last several months, police Lt. Leonard Mata told City News Service.
