ANAHEIM, CA — Sitting in the hotel room will do the team no good, Angels manager Brad Ausmus said during Tuesday's emotional news conference.

Instead, with heavy hearts, the team will return to the field Tuesday against the Texas Rangers at 5:05 p.m.

The team is continuing to process the devastating loss of one of their own, a man who was described as "one of the most popular players" in the clubhouse.

"The game itself can be a refuge for the players where they can turn their minds off and just focus on baseball," Angels manager Brad Ausmus said during an emotional news conference in Arlington, Texas.

General Manager Billy Eppler described Skaggs and his love of the game, saying that playing tonight "is what Tyler would want."

"A lot of problems go away when the first pitch is thrown until the last pitch is thrown," Eppler said, noting that Skaggs will be "weighing heavy on their hearts tonight."

The team has remained in close company following the news of Skagg's untimely death. Foul play and suicide were both ruled out, according to authorities.

"Most importantly, in the end, we were able to talk about Tyler," Ausmus said, fighting back the tears. "We laughed about some of the stories and some of the goofy things he did, listen to some of his music. So it was good."
