Coast Community College District Condemns Anti-Asian Racism

A recent resolution adopted by the district condemned violence and discrimination targeting the Asian & Asian American community.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees addressed the issues of discrimination, threats and acts of violence against the Asian and Asian American community in a recent resolution.

The Board of Trustees adopted a resolution condemning anti-Asian racism on Wednesday, March 3, saying they are "shocked and saddened" due to the recent deaths following hate-driven attacks. The board further condemned violence and discrimination targeting the Asian and Asian American community, they said, in a statement.

"The District rejects any language that associates the ongoing public health crisis with a particular national or ethnic group," a spokesperson reported, "recognizing that discriminatory language is counterproductive to defeating a virus that observes no national or ethnic boundaries."
