OC Family Keeps Same Christmas Tree For 3 Decades: Report
A family in Irvine has reportedly had the same Christmas tree for at least 34 years.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA -- A family in Irvine has reportedly had the same Christmas tree for at least 34 years. The Mistretta family in Orange County bought a Christmas tree in 1983. After the holiday that year, they decided to keep the tree. Thirty-three years later, the tree is still thriving in its home, according to The Mercury News.
"Their small act, saving a tree that might’ve been destined for the landfill or a compost heap, had surprisingly big environmental impacts," Mercury News reported. "By a conservative measure, the Mistrettas family tradition has captured at least 1,088 kilograms (or nearly 2,400 pounds) of carbon dioxide, said Cal State Fullerton professor John Bock, the director of the school’s Center for Sustainability."
After tending to the tree for more than three decades, the couple has passed their tree on to their son who lives in the Bay Area, the newspaper reported.
