WASHINGTON, DC - Orange County's passenger rail fans received a good news this week with the imminent return of daily service to Amtrak's cross-country trains.

Starting later this month southland passengers will be able to connect to major cities nationwide via Los Angeles.

Amtrak has announced that the following trains will begin daily service on May 24th :

Daily service to Chicago and the northeast via Albuquerque and Kansas City, the Southwest Chief train, will begin on May 31st, when daily connections to New York, Boston and Washington DC will also recommence.

Finally, connections to the southeast of the country - Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Raleigh, Savannah, Jacksonville and New Orleans - will resume on June 7th.

Amtrak's long distance services were reduced to running just three times per week as a result of the pandemic. The reintroduction of daily service is possible due to funding provided by the stimulus package, approved by Congress and signed by the President earlier this year.
