OCC's Mesa Dance Festival Will Include Hip Hop Workshops

Orange Coast College’s dance department will host a full day of Hip-Hop on Sunday, Oct. 13 with its Mesa Dance Festival.

The day will kick off with registration at 10 a.m. next to OCC’s Peterson Gymnasium, followed by three separate master class dance workshops presented by talented choreographers Kevin Pascua, Rony Jacques, and David Slaney II. A dance battle will commence at 4:30 p.m. (registration begins at 4 p.m.), and a performance at 7 p.m. will follow in the College’s Robert B. Moore Theatre.
The cost to attend the entire event is $25 in advance, and $35 on the day of the event. The Dance Battle entrance fee can be purchased separately for $10, as well as the evening performance, with tickets available for $12 in advance or $20 at the door. OCC and high school students with student ID can attend the entire event for $20.

Proceeds from the event will go toward student dance scholarships and improving OCC’s dance department. “The purpose of this event is to bring the community and OCC’s dance department together to experience an entire day of hip hop activities,” says dance instructor and event coordinator Jose Costas. “Also, we hope to raise funds to improve department programming and offer dance scholarships to low income students attending our program.”
