One Arrested In Fatal Stabbing At Homeless Shelter: Police

Anaheim police & emergency officials rushed to the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter overnight where one man fatally stabbed another.

ANAHEIM, CA — One Anaheim man experiencing homelessness was arrested Monday for allegedly fatally stabbing another overnight at the Salvation Army shelter in Anaheim, police said.

Alvaro Sahagun, 57, arrested in the death of Marcos Zavala, 36, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

Sahagun was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held on $1 million bail.

Anaheim police officers went to the Salvation Army shelter in the 1400 block of South Salvation Place about 6 a.m. Sunday, and found Zavala suffering from at least one stab wound, Carringer said. Zavala died at a hospital.

Sahagun was arrested at the scene, Carringer said. What led up to the stabbing was not known as of this report.

The men were not unknown to each other, according to Carringer.

"Detectives are not discussing a motive for the murder," Carringer said.
