Rat-Infested Hoarder House Sells For $55K Over Asking Price

ORANGE, CA — What happens when a rat-infested hoarder's house hits the market in Orange County? A bidding war, naturally.

California's housing market may be cooling down, but a good deal is still a good deal, and any home on Old Towne Orange's coveted South Schaffer Street listed under $800,000 is bound to attract some attention. And this house, rat feces and all, was listed at $599,000

According to the Orange County Register, the 1922 Craftsman was the longtime home of a man who collected junk in the neighborhood. It had belonged to his mother, and after his death, the piled up refuse had to be hauled away in multiple truckloads.

Still, according to the Register, crowds stormed an open house and overlooked the rodent droppings and dilapidation, to see a diamond in the rough. Ultimately, a contractor and his wife bought the house with plans to restore it and one-day move in, the newspaper reported.

After the bidding war, it sold this week for $655,000 according to Realtor.com. The historic home features two bedrooms and one bath has 1,140 square-feet with room for an addition.
