Titans Try, Again, To Start COVID-Beleagured Basketball Season

FULLERTON, CA — Cal State Fullerton Friday evening will try for a third time to play its first men's basketball game of the 2020-21 season.

The Titans are scheduled to play a road game against the University of San Diego, their original season-opening opponent. The two teams were supposed to meet Nov. 25 in Seattle's Husky Classic.

However, Cal State Fullerton announced Nov. 20 that a player had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the team to quarantine for 14 days and the player to self-isolate for 10 days, per the NCAA protocol.

USD announced Nov. 20 its men's basketball program would pause all team activities for 14 days as a result of a positive COVID-19 test result within the program.

The Titans were scheduled open its season Wednesday by playing host to Bethesda University. However, the game was canceled due to a positive COVID- 19 test in the Flames program.

There are no plans to re-schedule the game against the Anaheim-based National Christian College Athletic Association team which has played five Division I opponents, losing all the games by at least 44 points, Cal State Fullerton announced.

Cal State Fullerton returns four players who played consistent minutes on last season's team that went 11-20 -- forwards Johnny Wang and Vincent Lee and guards Wayne Arnold and Tory San Antonio.

The Toreros opened their season Wednesday with a 83-56 loss at UCLA.

The game is set to begin at 6 p.m. and be streamed by the WCC Network.
