A small aircraft broke apart over the Yorba Linda neighborhood in Southern California, causing 5 deaths on Super Bowl Sunday.

YORBA LINDA, CA —A small plane broke apart over the residential neighborhood of Yorba Linda, California, yesterday, February 3. Authorities have since confirmed that five people died and two were injured after a twin-engine plane crashed into the Southern California suburb, causing raining debris and setting a house on fire.

Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Cory Martino told reporters that four of the victims— two males, and two females — were occupants of the burned home, but did not provide other information about them. The other fatality is confirmed to be the pilot, reports AP.

Dave Elfver, 75, talks about the plane crash in his Yorba Linda, California neighborhood Sunday. He said he was getting ready to go to his friend's house to watch the Super Bowl when he heard a whining sound "like a motorcycle going a hundred miles per hour." Then, he said, came the explosion. "The whole house shook. I thought it was an earthquake, but the whining sound didn't make any sense." The pilot, the lone occupant of the plane, and four people in the home that burned, not shown, died.
