Jan 15, 2016 Sanchez Art Center starts the new year with COLOR
Sanchez Art Center starts the year exhibiting COLOR - Rosemary Allen, Seeing Red - Art Guild of Pacifica and the Fog Fest Invitational

A Colorful New Year at Sanchez Art Center
The new year begins with loads of delicious, invigorating color at Sanchez Art Center! Painter Rosemary Allen will show paintings from her Color Series and Abstract Series in the Main Gallery, curated by Danna Hall. The Art Guild of Pacifica group show in West Gallery addresses the theme Seeing Red. In East Gallery, the 2015 Fog Fest Photo Contest award winners and judges will share some of their best works. All three shows open Friday, January 15, with a reception from 7 to 9 pm, graced by music duo Blue City Jazz, with Brian and Julie Novak-McSweeney.
Rosemary Allen has been working as a professional artist for 46 years. She attended San Francisco Art Institute and earned a BFA with high distinction from California College of the Arts. Allen has had several one-woman shows in the Bay Area and northern California and has participated in numerous group shows, including the 2010 Bay Area Currents Show at the Pro Arts Gallery in downtown Oakland.

Allen is fascinated with color and space relationships, and she creates depth and texture by, as she says, “building up and tearing away, creating and destroying.” Although she is best known for her abstract painting and use of color, she also paints the figure and landscapes. Her latest figurative works depict construction workers and gardeners in Oakland. To see images of these and other paintings, visit www.rosemaryallen.com. With studios in both Mendocino and Oakland, Allen is currently represented by Partners Gallery in Fort Bragg. Allen will give a free talk about her work on Sunday, February 21, at 4 pm.
The Art Guild of Pacifica exhibit, Seeing Red, is the perfect complement to Rosemary Allen’s Color. The West Gallery will resonate with the warmth of the color red in many forms and variations as Art Guild members share their interpretations of this theme.
The Fog Fest Invitational is a wonderful and varied presentation of photography by award winners and judges from 2015’s Fog Fest Photo Contest. The works capture nature and the scenic beauty of Pacifica, as well as the liveliness of people caught in motion or in attitudes of stillness. Some are color photographs, and some are black-and-white, which has its own mystery and appeal. Contest judge Edwin Hacking will share images of surreal landscapes from his recent trip to Iceland, while contest judge Alan Grinberg will explore connections between atmosphere, astronomy, and illusion.
