Woman Lights Firework In Pacifica, Seriously Injures Hand: Report

There have been at least three serious firework-related injuries along the coast in the past week.

PACIFICA, CA — A woman suffered a significant injury after finding a firework in the sand in Pacifica and lighting it on Tuesday afternoon, witnesses told NBC Bay Area.

The witnesses told the television station that she might have lost part of her hand. According to the North County Fire Authority, firefighters responded to a person on the beach near Esplanade Avenue and West Beaumont Boulevard suffering from “major trauma.” She was taken to a hospital.

There have been at least three serious firework-related injuries along the coast in the past week, North County Fire Authority Chief Jeff Huntze told NBC Bay Area.

Certain fireworks, deemed “safe and sane” are legal in Pacifica from June 28 to July 5. The fire authority did not specify what type of firework the woman picked up or the extent of her injuries.
