Firefighters Battle Brush Fire On Pacific Coast Highway

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Firefighters contained a heavy, nearly 2-acre brush fire on a hillside along Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades Monday night in about an hour, officials said.

The fire broke out at 15820 W. Pacific Coast Hwy shortly after 6 p.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Helicopters were conducting water drops to help stop the flames.

Crews were on scene for approximately two more hours conducting mop-up operations and traffic on PCH will remain affected.

No injuries were reported; no structures were threatened.

It's unclear what started the fire. The cause was under investigation.

"Additional engines were requested due to the steep terrain on the hillside," Stewart said.

Smoke could be seen from Malibu, Santa Monica and Venice. Santa Monica Fire Department was responding to the incident.

Last week, a brush fire prompted evacuations in Pacific Palisades and burned more than 1,150 acres. No structures were lost. A firefighter suffered a minor eye injury, however, no other injuries were reported in that large-scale fire. A 48-year-old suspect is facing arson charges connected to the fire.
