Gladstones Restaurant Coming To San Pedro's West Harbor

The new West Harbor site isn't expected to be completed until 2022.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Longtime seaside restaurant Gladstones will be coming to a new oceanfront venue. Eater LA revealed the popular Palisades eatery will be among the restaurant tenants at the forthcoming West Harbor in San Pedro.

The move comes as Gladstones current home on PCH stood on uncertain ground. A proposed Gladstones Redevelopment Project would replace the current restaurant with a new experience, designed by Frank Gehry and operated by Wolfgang Puck. The complex would include a rooftop bar, an ice cream shop, and a monument in honor of the original Gladstones.

West Harbor, which was previously going to be named the San Pedro Public Market, is expected to be completed in 2022. The project has gotten off to a rocky start, after the first two designs were loudly rebuffed by residents.

Groundbreaking on the 42-acre development was initially scheduled for March 2020, but was pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus.

“The ongoing public health crisis has greatly impacted our communities and the way our shared spaces will evolve," developers told the Daily Breeze in June. “It is important to take this time to review our existing plans to ensure that they maximize the open-air nature of our 42-acre site and best support the developing needs of tenants and all partners in this new era.”

West Harbor will replace Ports O' Call Village, which was demolished in 2017 to make room for the new complex.

According to Eater, West Harbor will feature a yet-unnamed restaurant by Robert Bell of the Chez Melange in Redondo Beach. The development will also include a large amphitheater, beer garden, and nearly 35,000 square feet of waterfront dining.
