Pacific Palisades Residents Asked To Avoid Beach Water After Rain
Officials issued a beach water advisory due to recent rainfall that likely raised contamination levels.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Officials are warning Palisades residents to stay out of the water at local beaches due to the recent rainfall. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a statement, warning that bacteria levels are currently elevated and could cause illness.
The advisory will be in place at least through Wednesday morning, although it may be extended if rain continues. Currently, there's a 30% chance of rainfall Tuesday night and Wednesday, while the National Weather Service says heavier rain is likely to return on Thursday and last into Friday.
"A rain advisory is issued when there is significant rainfall that may cause bacteria levels in ocean waters to increase," DPH said. "Bacteria levels can increase significantly during and after rainstorms, as contaminants within the runoff enters the ocean. Bacteria levels may remain elevated up to 3 days depending upon the intensity of the rain and the volume of runoff. Elevated bacteria levels in ocean water may cause illness, especially in children and the elderly. The Department of Public Health recommends that beach users avoid contact with ocean water for a period of 3 days after significant rainfall, especially near flowing storm drains, creeks and rivers."
