Red Cross Blood Drive To Be Held In Pacific Palisades
Are you eligible to donate blood? If so, the Red Cross needs your help.
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — The Red Cross is in need of blood, and is seeking the help of Palisades residents who are able to donate. A blood drive will be held on May 18 at American Legion Ronald Reagan, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
"Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood," the Red Cross said. "It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation."
Blood donors must be in good health, at least 17 years old and weigh over 110 lbs. 16-year-old students can also donate if they present a parental consent form.

Donors can donate either blood or "power red," which collects red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the original person. The same eligibility requirements apply for power red donations.
The Red Cross recommends donors get at least eight hours of sleep, avoid fatty foods, and drink extra water the day of a blood donation. Donors should also have knowledge of their medical history, and will have to answer questions about recent travel, drug use and sex.
