Updated: Rider Down in Pacific Palisades

A helicopter was being used to airlift a man who fell off his bicycle. No vehicle was involved.

A man in his 70s, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to a hospital after he seriously injured himself falling off his bicycle in Pacific Palisades, a police sergeant said.

The accident took place about 2:50 p.m. at 1267 N. Palisades Dr., according to fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

“There was no vehicle involved,” said Los Angeles police Sgt. Clifton Frazier. “A man in his 70s fell of his bike and hit his head. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.”

Original reports indicated the man had been struck by a car.

Frazier said the man was seriously injured.

A Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter airlifted the unidentified man to a hospital, Humphrey said. The LAFD copter landed at the nearby Santa Ynez Reservoir. The victim was last reported in critical condition, Humphrey added.
