Stories and Crafts, Golf and Traffic

Patch's quick take on the essential things to know, the most interesting things to do and best places to be on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Here's a handful of things to keep in mind for today.

If you have an event you'd like us to consider for Five Things, be sure to add it to the events calendar. We check it often!
    • Wondering about traffic? Check your commute before work!
    • The Palisades Library will host a children's story and craft time featuring You Are What You Eat/What's Eating You with David Orozco at 4 p.m. The library is at 861 Alma Real Drive.
    • Over in Brentwood, Heroes Golf Course is offering a special two-for-one deal to Patch readers beginning today. To receive the discount, just mention this Patch board post. The course is at 11301 Wilshire Blvd. and is a nine-hole, par course located on the grounds of the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. The offer runs through Sept. 20.
    • And in Santa Monica, featured tonight at the pier's Twilight Concerts is Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd. The free event runs from 7 to 10 p.m.
    • Today is Vegetarian Day, according to http://www.daysoftheyear.com. Where do you find the best vegetarian food in the area?
