Sunset Bridge Demolition Begins Tuesday Night

The bridge will close nightly through Thursday.

Demolition of the westerly abutment of the northern half of the Sunset Bridge is scheduled to begin Tuesday night, according to Metro.

Crews will be working on the bridge nightly from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. through Thursday, according to Metro. The Sunset Bridge will be open during the day, but will close during work hours.

Metro officials say the 405 ramps at Sunset Boulevard will also be closed during work hours. Ramps may begin to close as early as 7 p.m.

Detours due to demolition will be as follows:

  • Westbound Sunset Boulevard Traffic: Detoured to southbound Veteran Avenue to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Barrington Avenue and back to Sunset.
  • Eastbound Sunset Boulevard Traffic: Detoured to southbound Barrington Avenue, to eastbound Wilshire Boulevard, to northbound Veteran Avenue and back to Sunset.
  • Church Lane Traffic: Detoured to Sepulveda Boulevard.

Metro says local access for residents will be maintained and emergency responders will have access to the area. In addition, pedestrians will be rerouted to a safe area.
