Westside LAPD Officer Dies After Surgery Related To On-Duty Crash

A Pacific Division Los Angeles police officer died Sunday following a surgery related to an on-duty crash. She was 49.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The community is mourning the loss of a Westside Los Angeles Police Department officer and mother of three who died Sunday following a surgery related to an on-duty crash.

Esmeralda Ramirez was 49. Ramirez had been injured in a traffic collision in 2015, and she continued to suffer from her injury. Her surgery Sunday was related to the crash, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"She passed away over the weekend after a surgery related to an on- duty traffic collision that occurred in 2015," according to an LAPD statement. "She joined the department in 2008 and was a valued member of Pacific Division, where she worked in a variety of assignments. Her commitment to her follow officers and this department is only eclipsed by the love she had for her family."

Details of the crash were not immediately available.

Ramirez is survived by her three adult children.
