Here's how to prevent the rising catalytic converter thefts in Rancho Palos Verdes.
RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — Catalytic converter thefts are increasing in Rancho Palos Verdes and there's a way to help prevent them.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will host a catalytic converter etching event April 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Lomita Sheriff’s Station is teaming up with the City of Lomita and the Van Lingen Group to etch catalytic converters with a unique identifying number for free. Locals will have their vehicle information number (VIN) etched onto their catalytic converters.

"While the etching may not prevent your catalytic converter from being stolen, it will provide law enforcement with valuable information should it be stolen and later located during subsequent investigations," officials said.
The event is open to all residents in Lomita Station’s service area, including Rancho Palos Verdes.
