Crane Collapses On Rancho Palos Verdes Home

A crane collapsed on a Rancho Palos Verdes home Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — A crane collapsed on a home in Rancho Palos Verdes Monday, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said. No injuries were reported.

A large crane tipped over and landed on the roof of a one-story home in the 30000 block of Cartier Drive, near Hawthorne Boulevard, about 4:20 p.m., public information officer Henry Narvaez said.

The crane was at the residence to install metal columns for a solar field in the backyard when it tipped over, Narvaez said. It was not immediately clear why the crane toppled.

The homeowners were in the residence when the crane fell onto the roof, though no one was injured, Narvaez said.

Cal/OSHA investigators were called to the scene because the accident occurred during a construction job, Narvaez said.

Firefighters were standing by and would begin removing the crane once Cal/OSHA completed its investigation, Narvaez said.

A Los Angeles County Urban Search and Rescue Team assessed the structure.

Helicopters were circling the crane crash in Rancho Palos Verdes. Helicopter video showed a truck on its side and an attached crane breaking through a section of the tile roof of a home.

"Please be advised that helicopter activity over the 30000 block of Cartier Drive is due to media coverage of a crane that collapsed onto the roof of a home," according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
