RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — If you're interested in helping the city of Rancho Palos Verdes plan and prepare for upcoming emergencies, then consider joining the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
This group makes recommendations to the City Council to help ensure that the City of Rancho Palos Verdes develops and maintains a high state of readiness to respond to emergencies and disasters, organizers said.
Committee members help advise the City Council on ways to develop and improve programs to communicate with and educate residents about the importance of emergency preparedness.

Committee members participate in community outreach events to encourage residents to become prepared and to participate in local volunteer disaster response organizations. Committee members are also encouraged to become trained and registered as Disaster Service Workers, receive other disaster-related training and certifications.
It meets on a monthly basis, typically the third Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall. However, due to current Covid-19 restrictions, the group meets via Zoom.

People interested in joining the committee must submit an application to the City Clerk’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on April 9. To be considered for an appointment, an applicant must be a resident of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes.

Interviews with the City Council are tentatively scheduled to take place on April 20, prior to the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting virtually using the Zoom platform. The City Clerk’s Office will confirm the date and time of the interviews with the applicants.
The applications will be retained for future consideration for vacancies within other City committees, organizers said.
