LA Man Killed In 300-Foot Plunge Off Ocean Cliff

A 55-year-old Canoga Park man died Sunday when his vehicle plunged hundreds of feet into the ocean over a San Pedro cliffside.

SAN PEDRO, CA — A San Fernando Valley man was killed when his vehicle plummeted hundreds of feet over a cliff in San Pedro, the coroner's office announced Monday.

Rodney McClinton, 55, of Canoga Park, died at the scene of the crash early Sunday morning. At about 2 a.m., his vehicle plunged over the cliff. landing in the ocean below near White Point, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

McClinton's vehicle went off the road at 2002 W. Paseo Del Mar, according to investigators. Firefighters responded on the ground, in the air and in the ocean to access the vehicle near White Point, but they discovered McClinton dead inside the vehicle. A cursory search of the area yielded no other victims, said Humphrey.

A news videographer at the scene said the vehicle broke through a barrier and plunged 300-400 feet.
