Neighborhood Church to Offer Adult Meditation Series

Gain new tools to reduce stress, improve concentration and stay centered through challenges while cultivating joy and happiness.

The ability to meditate is within us; it is part of our DNA. We all can meditate and become reintroduced to the deep silence that lives within us. Sadly we search for joy and peace outside ourselves, and are continually disappointed to find the experiences short-lived. Whereas the unchanging qualities of God are within us, and meditation can help to heighten our awareness and deepen our love and devotion to God. The essence of God is “subtle” and through inner silence we become more open to hear and feel the “call”. The affirmation, “I stand ready to obey thy least command”, reminds me that God speaks to us in whispers and in small ways. It takes “practiced” silence to hear the voice.

As with all of yoga, there is a “science” to meditation. Through the practice of these systems, you become the “laboratory” where the hypothesis for all the claims and benefits offered can be decided through your own intimate knowledge. Come and see how this practice will enhance your life. The five (5) night series will include:

  • Learn a simple technique of meditation through clear, step-by-step instructions.
  • Energization Exercises- a unique system of exercises for controlling your energy level and overcoming fatigue. These easy movements utilize “dynamic tension” and can be done in a chair or standing.
  • You’ll identify your perfect “sitting” posture to quiet the body and allow comfort throughout meditation. (For this class, no one sits on the floor.)
  • Experience the how the breath can control the mind and the benefits this offers.
  • Gain new “tools” to reduce stress, improve concentration, stay centered through challenges while cultivating joy and happiness.
  • Feel the “power” of a group meditation and how the “group” can help support your personal, home practice.
  • Understand the importance of having a place in your home that invites daily meditations and why it is helpful to spiritualize your environment.
  • ……plus much more.

The course will begin Monday, July 31 and continue for four weeks, concluding on August 28, 2017. The suggested donation to the Church is $20 for a drop-in class or $65 for the full program ($80 for couples). *No one will be turned away for lack of ability to pay. A book title to aid in learning throughout the course will be announced prior to the class. If you have questions, please contact Eleanor Johnson-Muth at eleanorejohnson@aol.com or (310) 408-9315.
