Palos Verdes Estates Police Arrest Sexual Assault Suspect

A sexual assault was reported near the beach, close to the border of Torrance, the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department said.

PALOS VERDES, CA — Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in a sexual assault that happened near the beach at the border of Palos Verdes Estates and Torrance.

Palos Verdes Estates police made the arrest after taking the report of the assault. Based on initial information, authorities thought the crime happened in Palos Verdes Estates, but during the investigation, detectives learned the crime occurred in Torrance.

The suspect is still in custody of PVEPD, and authorities don't believe the public is at risk.

"The investigation is active and to maintain its integrity, these are all the details we are able to release at this time," PVEPD said.

Patch contacted PVEPD to ask for additional details regarding the assault, but were told no additional information about the suspect, or when the assault occurred, could be given.

Palos Verdes Estates police shared these personal safety tips:

  • Be alert to your surroundings and the people around you;
  • Carry a working cellular phone and know your location;
  • Whenever possible, walk with a friend or family member;
  • Stay in well-lighted areas as much as possible;
  • Walk close to the curb. Avoid doorways, bushes and alleys where someone could hide;
  • Walk confidently at a steady pace;
  • Make eye contact with people when walking;
  • If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. If the person continues to follow you, move quickly toward an open store or restaurant or a lighted house or a populated area. Don’t be afraid to yell for help; and
  • Do not use or wear anything that will impede your vision or hearing.
