Palos Verdes Plans National Night Out Events

The nationwide event aims to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula will celebrate the 29th Annual National Night Out—known as "America’s Night Out Against Crime"—on Tuesday with several events.

Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates join more than 15,325 nationwide and Canada in hosting a National Night Out event, designed to generate support for—and participation in—local anti-crime efforts.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.

The Palos Verdes Estates Neighborhood Watch, in conjunction with the local police department, will host several gatherings. The four public gatherings are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 3801 Via La Selva (former site of PVPUSD), Valmonte Plaza Park, Via Nivel Park and Via Carrillo Park, according to the city's calendar.

"One of the highlights of the evening is the participation by the mayor and city council in a caravan which visits each of the participating blocks in (Palos Verdes Estates)," according to the police department's website. "Police personnel, firefighters, paramedics, and PVE Neighborhood Watch board members also take part in the caravan."
