Peninsula Boys Frosh/Soph Team Defeats Morningside HS 56-16 to Earn 6th Bay League Victory
On Tuesday 1-31-17 the Peninsula Boys Frosh/Soph Team took on Morningside HS at the Peninsula HS Main Gym. This was the 2nd meeting between the two schools with the Panthers earning a 61-16 victory in the first encounter. The Panthers came out of the gate in the 1st quarter and they clamped down defensively on the Monarchs and the Panthers raced out to a 28-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Panthers came out in the 2nd quarter and they began to slow the game down and they did not look to push the tempo of the game and they became content to walk the ball up the court. The Panthers were running all of their plays and they still outscored the Monarchs 14-4 to take a commanding 42-4 lead heading into halftime.
The 3rd quarter began and the Panthers were content to sit back in a 2-3 zone and they appeared to be daring the Monarchs to shoot from the perimeter of the court. The Monarchs were able to hit a few 3 pointers and they outscored the Panthers 12-6 in the quarter to take a 48-16 lead heading into the 4th and final quarter.

The 4th quarter began and the Panthers again were packed into a very tight 2-3 zone defense and they effectively shut down the interior game of the Monarchs. The Panthers outscored the Monarchs 8-0 in the quarter to win the game 56-16. The Panthers now stand at 16-3 overall and 6-1 in the Bay League, the Panthers now have 3 very tough league games remaining against the Inglewood Sentinels, Redondo Union Sea Hawks and the Palos Verdes Sea Kings.
The Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore Wyatt Chang (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals), freshman Tyler Shu (11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal) and freshman Matheus Trefilio (10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists).
