Peninsula Frosh/Soph Boys Earn Another Bay League Victory Over Inglewood
Peninsula Boys Frosh/Soph Earns 7th Bay League Victory over Taller Inglewood Team
On Friday 2-03-17 the Peninsula Boys Frosh/Soph Team traveled to Inglewood HS for a rare 3:00 PM start time. The Panthers were coming off another hard fought victory against Morningside HS on Tuesday and they were looking to extend their modest winning streak. The Panthers came out of the locker room and appeared to be slightly out of sync and they were not focused. This fortunately for the Panthers did not last very long and as the Panthers found their stride they began clamping down defensively and pushing the tempo of the game. The Panthers raced out to an early 17-7 lead as the 1st quarter came to an end.
The 2nd quarter began and the Panthers looked hungry and more focused and they began to take away the lane from the taller Sentinels and as their outside shots began missing the mark the Panthers were converting those misses into fast break opportunities. The Panthers also began causing multiple errors by the Sentinels and the Panthers outscored the Sentinels by a score of 21-6 in the quarter to take a commanding 38-13 lead heading into halftime.
The Panthers came out of the locker room and anyone watching the game would have sworn that they were playing like they were down 10 points to the Sentinels. The Panthers were pounding the offensive and defensive boards and the tempo became even quicker than it was in the 2nd quarter. The Sentinels used their superior height to get a number of easy put back baskets, but the unrelenting pressure from the Panthers led to Peninsula outscoring Inglewood 22-14 in the quarter. The Panthers led the Sentinels 60-27 heading into the 4th and final quarter.

As the 4th quarter began the Panthers began to show signs of fatigue and they were not doing the job they had been in the early parts of the game and Inglewood took advantage of that and began hitting easy uncontested lay-ups inside. As the quarter wound down the Panthers missed a total of 10 shots in the quarter and were easily outscored by the Sentinels 13-6, the Panthers still went on to earn the victory 66-40. The Panthers are now 17-3 overall and more importantly 7-1 in the Bay League. The Panthers will next face the Redondo Union Seahawks on Tuesday 2-07-17 at 4:30 PM in the Peninsula HS Main Gym.
The Panthers were led in scoring by freshman Ethan Ikegami (16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), sophomore Wyatt Chang (14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), freshman Tyler Shu (13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal).
