This week's expensive home on the Palos Verdes Peninsula should be no surprise to readers who have been paying attention to the real estate market on The Hill.Â
The six-story Hacienda de la Paz at 1 Buggy Whip Drive in Rolling Hills made headlines last week when the Los Angeles Times profiled the property and its record-breaking $53 million price tag.
Listing agent Marcie Hartley of Hilton & Hyland describes the property as "one of Califonia's most unique (and) stunning homes" with "staggering underground Moroccan-style baths (hamam)"; "unimaginable panoramic views encompassing the beaches, West Side, the Hollywood Hills, downtown Los Angeles (and) the San Gabriel Mountains"; an "indoor tennis court to U.S. Open specifications, complete (with) neoclassical details, stunning murals (and) capable of conversion to a 350-attendee ballroom, orchestra (and) full catering facilities"; and an "outdoor clay tennis court to French Open specifications," among other features.

The home, which features nine bedrooms and 25 bathrooms, has five of its levels underground to comply with the gated city's zoning regulations that say homes must be only one story above ground.
The seven-acre property was last sold in December 1993 for a paltry $2.05 million, according to public records aggregated on Zillow.
