Search For Boat In Distress Underway Near Palos Verdes Coast

A search for a boat in distress was underway along the coast near Rancho Palos Verdes, authorities said.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — A search is underway Tuesday along the coast near Rancho Palos Verdes after a boat sent a distress call about hitting rocks, officials said.

The search started late Tuesday morning and included the Los Angeles County Fire Department's air operations, U.S. Coast Guard, Baywatch Cabrillo and search and rescue from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

As of 1 p.m., no boat was found, Coast Guard officials reported.

The call could be a false alarm, Josh Haskell of ABC7 reported. Officials planned to stay in the area for the next hour or so.
