Young Man, Woman In Cliff Fall Identified

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading to the deaths of two young adults in San Pedro Monday.

SAN PEDRO, CA — Firefighters were working Monday night to retrieve the bodies of a young man and woman at the bottom of a cliff in San Pedro. Authorities don't know what led to their deaths.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Los Angeles firefighters were called to conduct a cliff rescue at West Paseo Del Mar near Point Fermin Park. When they arrived, they found two bodies near the bottom of the cliff, said Nicholas Prange with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The pair were identified by the coroner's office as Brandon Escobar, 23 of San Pedro, and Rayana Valdez, 21, of Covina. Autopsies were pending to determine their cause of death.

According to Officer Mike Lopez with the Los Angeles Police Department, investigators haven't yet determined the circumstances that caused their deaths.
