
OAKLAND, CA — A driver who was killed when his car crashed into a tree along state Highway 13 in Oakland early Friday morning has been identified as 43-year-old Terence Franks, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
The crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. in the highway's southbound lanes just north of Interstate Highway 580, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Franks, an Oakland resident, was driving a Hyundai Accent and was allegedly speeding when he crashed into a tree, according to the CHP.

Firefighters had to extricate Franks from the Hyundai because it was so badly damaged. He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.
CHP officials are continuing to investigate whether drugs or alcohol also played a part in the fatal crash.
