Happy Mother's Day to the Oakland Zoo's River Otters!
Mother and daughter, Ginger and Rose, have both delivered litters of three pups. The growing otters can be seen frolicking in their habitat.

OAKLAND, CA - This Sunday is Mother's Day, and the Oakland Zoo is celebrating by showing off their adorable river otter babies.
Listen to this geneology: one adult male, two adult females and six otter pups. One of the adult females is the daughter of the other. So that makes one litter the aunts and uncles of the other? Sounds like a country song to us. (We were relieved to learn that the male just came to the zoo two years ago, so he's not both the father and grandfather of one litter!)
Celebrating Mother's Day is 9 year old Ginger and 4 year old Rose. Ginger is on her fourth litter of pups. Her two girls are named Ashkii and Sudali, while the boy is called Victor. Rose is a first time mother who also had three pups – two boys named Eno and Sikwa, and a girl named Kai.

Accordig to the Zoo, Wyatt has been a great father to his pups and has been playing and frolicking carefully with those that have ventured into the water thus far.
Ginger's other offspring now live at the Aquarium of the Bay.

According to Margaret Rousser, ZooLogical Manager of the Oakland Zoo, "North American river otters are in high demand in zoos and Oakland Zoo’s breeding success means that these charismatic little guys will eventually get to charm even more children in other zoos across the country.”
Zoo guests are now able to watch the new pups in their exhibit daily. The River Otter exhibit is located in the Wayne and Gladys Valley Children's Zoo.
