Piedmont Residents Warned Of Stimulus Check Fraud
Don't let crooks get their hands on your federal stimulus money.

PIEDMONT, CA — The third round of stimulus checks passed by Congress is landing in the bank accounts of Piedmont residents and millions of Americans.
This week 37 million Americans received their stimulus checks, bringing the two week total to 127 million payments, according to a news release issued jointly by the Treasury Department, IRS and Bureau of the Fiscal Service.
The grand total so far is $325 billion into the hands of Americans.

If you are still waiting for your money, don't fall for stimulus check scams. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office says these are red flags that someone is trying to steal your money:

- Requests to pay up front to receive your payment. The government will not ask you for money to process your payment.
- Requests to provide personal information. The government will not text, call, email, or direct message you asking for personal information such as your social security number, bank account, or credit card number.
- Requests that ask for gift cards, cryptocurriencies, or wire transfers, through third party companies like Western Union or MoneyGram. The government will never use these payment mechanisms.
If you have been the victim of a scam, report it to the Consumer Protection Division of the DA's Office.
