Piedmont Wireless Communication Facilities Open House This Wed.

Residents will gain information and express their views regarding wireless communication facilities and their regulation.

PIEDMONT, CA — The City of Piedmont will host a Community Open House for wireless communication facilities on Wednesday, Oct. 17, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Piedmont Community Hall, 711 Highland Avenue. The Community Open House will provide opportunities for residents to gain information and express their views regarding wireless communication facilities and their regulation.

Cellphones, texts, Internet access, streaming data, GPS, emergency response, and other technologies are increasingly dependent upon wireless broadband service in the form of distributed antenna systems (DAS) and small cell facilities.

A primary goal of the Community Open House is to listen to the preferences, concerns, and ideas of Piedmont residents about the Wireless Communication Facilities Ordinance. The CommunityOpen House will feature examples of practices used by other cities to manage wireless communication antennas, radios, cabinets, and other equipment along roadways, sidewalks, and the public right-of-way.

Information will include federal and state restrictions on the City’s authority to regulate wireless facilities, particularly those located in the public rights-of-way. The Community Open House will include information on the types of technology and services expected in the near future. There will be information on the range of possible designs and locations of antennas, radios, and other types of communications equipment in the public right-of-way. This information is intended to provide the City with a foundation on which to consider revised City Code regulations for future wireless communication facilities and to strengthen Piedmont’s local control of new and modified wireless communication facilities.
