Police Blotter: Stolen Jewelry, Vehicle Vandalism, Balloon Attack
The moon wasn't full — it was just a wee sliver — but the weekend police log still had some oddities.
Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Oct. 4 through noon, Oct. 7. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
FRIDAY, OCT. 4
Residential burglary — A Lexford Road resident reported the loss of jewelry from her home.
SATURDAY, OCT. 5
Live wire — A falling tree limb brought down a live electrical wire on Holly Place, near the corner of Manor Drive, shortly after 7:30 a.m. A PG&E crew responded.
Behind bars? — One of Piedmont's animal control officers reported about 9 a.m. that she had "one raccoon in custody."
Welfare check — A Piedmont businessperson asked police to check on thee welfare of an older local resident who hadn't showed up for his usual morning cup of coffee for several days. A police officer checked and found the man, in his 90s, was fine.
Big yellow bus — A caller reported that a man appeared was living in a yellow school bus that had been parked near the corner of Kingston and Rose avenues for two or three days. Police found the bus legally parked but unoccupied and left a notice that it would be towed if not moved soon.
SUNDAY, OCT. 6
Leafy snooze — A police officer spoke with a person seen sleeping in a tree on Trestle Glen Road about 2 a.m.
Auto burglary — Someone broke a window of an SUV parked near the intersection of Park Way and Bonita Avenue. Another vehicle parked nearby was also vandalized.
Musical no-show — A Park Way resident reported that a mariachi band hired via the Internet to entertain at an event failed to show up.
Traffic hazard — Three people in a silver Prius were reportedly throwing water balloons at other vehicles near the corner of Blair and Mountain avenues about 6:40 p.m. Police were unable to locate the balloon hurlers.
MONDAY, OCT. 7
Bad dog! — Oakland Animal Services asked Piedmont's animal control officers to serve a notice of quarantine after a Piedmont pooch bit someone in Oakland.
