Police Blotter: Dog Bite, Car Crashes, Theft of $2,300 from Unlocked SUV
Nefarious happenings in Piedmont during the past week.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Sept. 2 through noon, Sept. 9. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
MONDAY, SEPT. 2
Traffic stops — Piedmont police issued eight traffic citations in less than four hours Monday afternoon, in various locations — seven in Piedmont and one of Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland. (Lots of traffic citations throughout the week — drive carefully, folks, or risk a ticket.)
Vehicle theft — A red Nissan Sentra was reported stolen from St. James Drive.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 3
Noisy car crash — A caller reported hearing the sound of a vehicle crash near Grand and Greenbank avenues at 9:24 p.m. When officers investigated, they found that a vehicle had crashed into a median near Grand Avenue and Cambridge Way, damaging a city sign and some trees. It appears that the driver left the scene but reported the incident to police later that evening.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 4
Dog bite — A Piedmont man was bitten by a dog while walking on St. James Drive about 8:15 a.m. The dog was quarantined for a rabies check.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 6
Accident and arrest — One person was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a non-injury accident on Moraga Avenue near Red Rock Road shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Snake seen — A Sunnyside Avenue resident reported seeing a snake in the bushes a little after 3:30 p.m. The snake had slithered away by the time an animal control officer arrived.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 7
Trapped in Piedmont! — About 7 p.m., police unfastened the gate for a driver who got locked inside the Piedmont Community Center parking lot by mistake.
Vandalism — Graffiti was reported on Artuna Avenue.
Theft — Cash totaling $2,300 was reported stolen during the night from an unlocked SUV parked on Ricardo Avenue.
Reckless driver — A Piedmont resident reported that a woman driving a Volvo honked her horn about 4:15 p.m. when the reporting person did not drive on from a four-stop at Mountain and Blair avenues quickly enough to suit her.Â
SUNDAY, SEPT. 8
Drug possession — A man seen sleeping in a vehicle near the corner of Oakland and Linda avenues shortly after 7 a.m. was arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs and was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.
MONDAY, SEPT. 9
Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported a car "creeping down Wildwood Gardens" at 3:50 a.m. Police determined that the driver was a newspaper carrier delivering papers.
Defunct skunk — Several callers reported a deceased skunk in the road in the 100 block of Hagar Avenue about 8:30 a.m. An animal control officer wasn't immediately available, but a patrol officer moved the skunk's body to the side of the road.
Theft — A toolbox was reported stolen from a home on Rose Avenue.
Lost dog — A stray golden retriever was found behind the city's corporation yard off Moraga Avenue about 1140 a.m.
