PUSD to Honor Late Ambassador Chris Stevens
The Piedmont High library is being named the Ambassador Christopher Stevens Memorial Library in honor of Stevens, a 1978 PHS graduate killed in Libya last year.
Wednesday, Sept. 11, is the first anniversary of the death of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and members of Stevens' family will attend that night's meeting of the Piedmont Unified School District board of education, according to the meeting agenda.
Stevens, a 1978 graduate of Piedmont High School, was killed in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012.
The Piedmont High library will be formally named the Ambassador Christopher Stevens Memorial Library in his honor at Wednesday's meeting.
Other activities planned by PUSD to honor Stevens include:
- An announcement of the naming of the library, a commemoration of service and a moment of silence at halftime of the PHS home football game on Friday, Sept. 13.
- Activities at Piedmont Middle School and Piedmont High on Constitution Day, Tuesday, Sept. 17, that commemorate Stevens. These will include writing commitments to the statement “What will you do to improve the community?
- Social Science teachers sharing information on Stevens’ service and discussion of its relevance to current world events.Â
