Remembering Oakland Resident Maureen Anne Scannell
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11 a.m.

OAKLAND, CA: Maureen passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2016 in Oakland surrounded by loved ones, and in the thoughts and prayers of those who could not be present. Survived by daughter Sheila Murray (John), son Sean Scannell, daughter Colleen Kunz (David), son Daniel J. Scannell (Janise), daughter Kathleen Flood (Patrick), twin sister Aileen Scully, and 15 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband Dan Scannell, son Patrick Scannell (Toni), and brother Joseph O’Brien. Born in San Francisco on 3/27/1935, Maureen graduated from Presentation High School in 1953. She graduated from Holy Names College of Oakland in 1957.
She met her husband Dan while working on a joint theater production between Holy Names and St. Mary’s College, where Dan studied. After a whirlwind romance, they married in 1958. They had six children in seven years.

Besides raising six kids, Maureen was a prolific volunteer. She held office and directed events for Holy Names College, Bishop O’Dowd High School, and St. Theresa. Her children and some of their school friends will remember her as a St. Theresa Hot Dog lady.
We will miss her cheerfulness, willingness, sincerity and love. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at St. Theresa’s Church on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. A reception at St. Theresa’s will immediately follow the mass.
