Rare White Raccoon Photographed At Lake Merritt

OAKLAND, CA — An absolutely adorable Oakland resident is gaining widespread attention after its photo was posted on Reddit.

The photo was posted by Reddit user Breakfast_Is_Best under the title "One of my favorite residents at Lake Merritt." The poster told other readers, "I see it in the morning sometimes on my way to work. It likes to hang out near the lawn bowling courts across the street from the bird sanctuary."

Dozens of comments have been logged.

denisenic01e was first to comment with, "Albino raccoon? He's cuuuute!!"

A couple of people thought it looked like a cat. Then DirdCS commented, "I thought it was an albino bear standing up...looks huge."

Other readers mentioned seeing two white raccoons together in the area, and some sightings go back a few years.
